Gonna try to keep these super short and simple since I was on the gameDev reddit and learned devlogs are kinda dead and for new devs they just add to dev time. Anyways here's a look at the menu and some other things (Please excuse the windows taskbar)!
New menu panel and designThis is the new menu! Before hand it was a mostly brown square with some white borders but it recently occurred to me that using Photoshop I could probably make something better. I'm not sure if ts a GOOD menu, but as far as my menus go its definitely the best looking. You can see I've already got the save/load system set up (At least for now, Once I add "Levels" I'll need to incorporate Area unlocks rather than just loading straight to the camp (Havent started yet, still working on "tutorial" area).
I thought this was a pretty cool idea but almost scrapped it, it's still here because my buddy said he liked the Idea of choosing a weapon from a podium rather than a menu so I kept it, what do you guys think? Here's the weapon select! Right now its only the sword and spear but soon (relatively speaking at least) there will be a knife too! I do plan to have more weapons types as well as weapons but we'll get to that Farther down the road (or maybe not depending on how this goes, I do want to add a better weapon to the item shop for each class BUT it (and prob most weapons) wouldn't get a special sprite since that beyond my artistry capabilities lol, maybe I'll add special sprites for weapons in a post launch update). The plan is to redo this whole area eventually, putting it inside of a cool building or smth, the only reason it didn't now is because I take a LONG time to do basic art. I'm dreading designing the new enemy sprites later LOL.This is the screen for choosing your first skill in the game (this is for sword, spear has different options)! This is the skill choose screen. This is directly after weapon select. I Currently you can only have one and upgrades aren't possible (since I haven't finished the tutorial yet, once I do it'll get more interesting!). I DO have a really cool Idea to add a "Boss" to the tutorial area that drops a wind blade or sturdy spear to amp Power Sword and Strong Thrust respectively but that's more of a public build 2-5 kind of thing, I don;t want scope to get too big for this one!Nothing much, just a look at the tutorials opening! NOTE: This is slightly outdated, dashing to avoid attacks has been added!Nothing to explain here, just a look at the tutorial's opening. The most "Tutorially" it gets is here, its just a run-down of the gameplay. Read it if your interested in what the gameplay will be like. Speaking of which It'll probably suck since this is not only my first top down game but my first attempt at an even remotely "complex" combat system. It'll get better with time!Screenshot of what you see when you leave the villageThis isnt much, just a screenshot of the only area that currently has gameplay. There are actually 6 slimes but most are optional, hell the first one is too, you can just run past him! Its a nice way to grind up levels preemptively though (Or you could just edit the files to experiment with the level scaling and stuff!)
I hope you guys enjoyed this look at the game so far! Oh, guess I should also give an actual update:
-Leveling system implemented
-Spear skills added (may need bugfixes, not sure)
-Money added
-Dash added
-Tutorial is about 80% complete, I only need one more enemy variety and to rig it up to send you to the camp!
One last thing before I go, I should probably mention that for my sake I am gonna make the camp a menu at first. I want it to be an area where you can walk around and then interact with NPCs to buy stuff, upgrade stuff, etc etc but right now I dont really have to time or motivation to do the amount of artwork I'd need to get that done anytime before test build 3 or 4 lol. See Ya'll in the next one!
