Progress so far
Hello, its been a little over a week since I announced this project so I thought Id drop a little update here. Development has been going pretty slow to be honest, but Ive got some things done. Notably Ive implemented the level system (So far only on the sword player) and the ability to earn money. All that's left in that department is to add the ability to save EXP/Money/Level and then the shop panel with some Items and then I'd have checked 2 Items off my list. I plan to add another enemy variety next, but that might take a while since Im kind of bad at art lol.
Ive also restructured the main menu and plane to add some neat little features like a little corner with how much money you have and what level you are. I dont really have much else to share but I did say Id get more into detail about the game so Ill share some more details.
Monolith hunter is supposed to be a Topdown 2D rougelike-ish adventure game. The goal is to prevent the largest "Monolith break" in history, something that will be explained in the game, not likely in the first test build, though. The player will be able to do multiple runs through areas as they progress further and further, coming across hidden bosses, weapons, and all kinds of cool Easter eggs. I admit this is quite a large project for someone of my skill level, so don't expect anything too grand. For the first public test build I plan to have part of the first area set up so that after the tutorial players can do some runs in early areas and see how it feels. Don't expect much out of the combat yet, its better than my first iteration but its still pretty shaky. The optimal strategy is still hit-and run since no enemies have attacks that make you keep close, I do plan for enemy variety #2 to do that, though. Im gonna add a dodge roll but since my combat updates usually suck on their first iteration I wouldn't expect much. The only part of the combat I could add but wont for public test build one is skill upgrades because my current skill system isnt very friendly to them and ptb1 is gonna take long enough already. Beside, the point of ptb1 is to get the games skeleton out in the wild for people to test out and decide if it has potential. Anyway Ill see you guys in a future devlog where Ill hopefully discuss the addition of new enemies, completed implementation of the leveling system, and the basic item shop!
